Intensive new nano-analysis of the Winchcombe meteorite by a team including University of Leicester scientists has revealed how it was affected by water and repeatedly smashed apart and reassembled on the journey it took through space before landing in an English sheep field in 2021.
The Winchcombe meteorite, a rare carbonaceous meteorite which crashed onto a driveway in Gloucestershire, has been found to contain extra-terrestrial water and organic compounds that reveal insights into the origin of Earth’s oceans.
Netflix has donated a fragment of a Semychan Pallasite meteorite, similar to the fictional comet in the hit film DON'T LOOK UP, to Space Park Leicester in a bid to inspire the next generation of space pioneers.
