Precision Measurement of Optical Frame for SVOM Space Telescope

This case study explores how Space Park Leicester leverages advanced measurement services to meet stringent requirements, with examples from real-world applications in aerospace and optical instrumentation.

Objective:

To ensure the optical frame used in the SVOM (Space-based multi-band astronomical Variable Objects Monitor) project met stringent tolerances for high-precision spherical surfaces (600mm).

Process

Measurement 1: Zeiss

Initial measurements of the optical frame were conducted using Zeiss’s advanced precision measurement technology as part of the project requirements. Results validated the spherical surfaces and the tight tolerances.

Measurement 2: Space Park Leicester

The same frame was later measured on the CMM at Space Park Leicester. Observations showed that results were highly consistent with the initial Zeiss measurements.
