This case study explores how Space Park Leicester leverages advanced measurement services to meet stringent requirements, with examples from real-world applications in aerospace and optical instrumentation.
To ensure the optical frame used in the SVOM (Space-based multi-band astronomical Variable Objects Monitor) project met stringent tolerances for high-precision spherical surfaces (600mm).
Initial measurements of the optical frame were conducted using Zeiss’s advanced precision measurement technology as part of the project requirements. Results validated the spherical surfaces and the tight tolerances.
The same frame was later measured on the CMM at Space Park Leicester. Observations showed that results were highly consistent with the initial Zeiss measurements.
This validation underscores Space Park Leicester’s capability to deliver high-precision metrology services, ensuring compliance with exacting project standards, such as those required in optical and aerospace components.
