Start-up’s mission to make space more accessible gets a boost from Space Park Leicester
An innovative start-up on a mission to make space more accessible to businesses is now taking advantage of world-leading facilities at Space Park Leicester.
Exobotics is developing the next generation of nano-satellite sub-systems, platforms and operational services to make space economical for every business.
In an exciting move it has become the latest company to be accepted on the European Space Agency – Business Incubation Centre for the United Kingdom (ESA-BIC UK) programme at Space Park Leicester, the University of Leicester’s pioneering £100 million hub science and innovation park.
Chief Scientist at Exobotics Peter J. Exobotics acts as an in-house satellite development team for businesses, giving them unparalleled support and guidance.
It is developing a variety of products and services, including spacecraft subsystems and ground support equipment, modular satellite and roving platforms with flatsat support, end-to-end mission services, payload design and fast-track programmes.
Vinay Patel, Head of Commercial and Innovation at Space Park Leicester, said: “Exobotics’ diverse and experienced team is developing software and hardware that is scalable, modular and tuned for the challenges of operation in extreme environments.
“We are thrilled to be supporting innovative start-up companies like Exobotics through the ESA BIC programme, through which businesses are allowed to use space and satellite technologies to develop new innovative products and services.”
The ESA BIC UK is managed and partly funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), in collaboration with ESA Space Solutions, the UK Space Agency and the University of Leicester.
It provides start-ups with a carefully designed two-year support package to help them through the development of their game changing products and services in an increasingly competitive and global marketplace.
Successful applicants receive a programme of technical support from the University of Leicester’s leading space and earth observation scientists as well as business support.
